Debt Debate:Is Supplemental Security Income Safe?
Posted in: Supplemental Security Income on August 8th, 2011

ssi and debt debateThere has been much talk in the news and among citizens about the state of social security and the varying programs that the administration runs.  Chiefly, it has come to the attention of many that Social Security Disability Insurance in particular will run out of funds by 2027 if the resources are drawn on at the rate they are today.  Estimates only show that people who are applying for Social Security Disability Insurance are only growing in number, so the stark reality of the situation is that many people who rely on this resource might be left out to dry in less than two decades.

But what about Supplemental Security Income?  Does it suffer from the same malady as Social Security Disability Insurance?

Why Is Supplemental Security Income Different?

While Social Security Disability Insurance is definitely experiencing troubles generating the income needed to sustain the people who rely on it for an extended period of time, there’s a glimmer of hope for those who instead receive Supplemental Security Income.  The experts say that due to the fact that the funds that support Supplemental Security Income are drawn from the Treasury Department rather than tax revenue, this program is less destined for future fiscal problems.

While this is good news for some people, the fact that Social Security Disability Insurance is in such bad shape paints a terrible portrait for all.  Be sure to stay aware of updates in the situations of both Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income.  Your livelihood or that of your loved ones may well depend on it!
