Worries About Disability
Posted in: Social Security Disability on July 22nd, 2011

Social Security has been on the forefront of the minds of many people – both average American citizens and politicians – for a long period of time.  It’s been known for a while that theDisability payment concerns current social security situation in place is not tenable; with a population that is steadily growing older and the baby boomers moving into retirement, there is less and less available for a population that needs more and more.  Disability, a section of social security, is at an even greater risk.

So What’s The Problem?

Especially since the economic situation took a turn for a worse back at the end of the last decade, more and more people have been applying for social security disability payments.  The problem is that with money being so tight, many people are attempting to hedge corners and get into the disability program without actually being fully qualified.  Recent forays into the system show that audits done on individuals who have already entered the program in order to make sure that they are still eligible are not conducted as regularly as they should be.

But even beyond the fraudsters, the problem lies in the fact that a lot of people are putting pressure on the system.  Social Security Disability Insurance, in particular, is already in deficit and is actually projected to run out of money in a few years.  It remains to be seen how the government will juggle these difficult problems – and how the populace that is unable to support themselves due to disability will cope in the meantime.
