Why Fewer Reviews?
Posted in: Social Security Disability on September 2nd, 2011

disabilityAn integral part of both Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance is reviews.  It is assumed that out of all persons reviving disability insurance, some will show improvement in their conditions.  After all, the idea behind Supplemental Security Income and Social Security Disability Insurance is that for those who have a chance of improvement it is not a permanent solution.  Ideally, particularly for those who receive SSDI, the idea is to get out into the workforce again as soon as possible.

What’s Wrong With The Reviews?

Somewhat ironically, while the numbers of individuals who receive Social Security Disability Insurance have been on the rise over the past decade, the amount of reviews on those cases have gone down. It has been noted that 669,000 reviews were done in 2003, but only 322,000 in 2010.

The general reason for the lower amount of reviews is said to be the lower amount of people who are working for the Social Security Administration.  As more and more workers are retiring from the Social Security Administration, the administration cannot afford to hire more individuals.  But the lower number of reviews means that more and more individuals are beginning to slip through the cracks – and if the reviews don’t happen, the strain on the system gets even heavier, and could result in the program running out of funds before the projections.  To keep Social Security Disability Insurance on track, be sure to cooperate with the reviews of your finances and get all of your paperwork in on time if you are already receiving benefits!
