Early Representation Helps Get SSDI Benefits Faster

The biggest problem with applying for and receiving Social Security Disability Insurance is how long it can take.  Current estimates have put the wait time on receiving Social Security Disability Insurance at some place between 500 and 700 days, which is an incredibly long time, particularly for people who need their money now.

It’s not uncommon for individuals with disabilities to continue to work until the very last minute before filing for benefits.  While it is admirable on a certain level to be committed to working and making your situation work without the help of Social Security Disability Insurance benefits, the problem is that for many people this results in a slow decline of quality of life and income until the situation gets so dire that individuals are forced to apply for Social Security Disability Insurance – but once they do so they are stymied by the long period of time that is required to receive benefits.

How Can Representation Help?

Having representation from a lawyer or other legal party who understands how Social Security Disability Insurance works and how best to utilize the system can help you get your benefits faster if used appropriately.  A lot of your ability to employ representation will depend on the amount of and variety of resources that you already have. However, there are some disability lawyers that offer their services contingent on winning your case. In other words, they don’t get paid unless they win your case!

In the event that you do have the money to hire representation, for many people this is a good move.  Some studies have shown that hiring representation at the beginning of the process can greatly cut down on the amount of time spent waiting for benefits to arrive.
