Do Certain Medical Conditions Automatically Get You Benefits?
Posted in: Conditions/Illness on August 22nd, 2011

disability qualificationThere are many rumors that surround both Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income.  One of the most prevalent ones is that there are a list of ailments and injuries that will automatically get you approved for benefits.  Is this true, and is there really a magic list of disabilities that ensure the applicant will get benefits?

Is There A Magic List?

Like with most questions that have to do with either Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income, the answer is both yes and no.  There are certain ailments that are singled out on what is known as the Social Security Administration Impairment Listing Manual, and this is used by the disability examiners at the initial stage of application.  In the event that your disability is on this list, you will have an easier time receiving disability benefits for both Social Security Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income as compared to somebody who is trying to apply for benefits and yet has a condition that is not on the list.

But just because an applicant has a condition that is listed does not mean that they will get a free ride through the application process.  Their paperwork has to be as shipshape as anybody else’s, and they also must continue to get constant medical attention throughout the process.  If you don’t have reliable medical records, you won’t get disability payments, no matter if your disability is on the Impairment Listing Manual or not!  Keep on top of your doctor visits and you’ll have a better chance.
