What Happens to my SSDI If I Go Back to Work Part Time?
Posted in: Benefits on July 1st, 2015

workingMost often when an individual finally qualifies for their SSDI and it is approved and payments are coming in they don’t want to rock the boat. They may reach a point with their disability situation where they want to go back to work at least part time or try it. They are afraid to do this however in case it gets them disqualified from their SSDI.

There are provisions that do allow for this. If an individual does go back to work part time then they must declare the money they are making from this. As a result of this income the SSDI benefits will be adjusted accordingly. In some cases it works out that the individual ends up making enough from their part time work that it totally eliminates what they are entitled to from their SSDI. This may mean that the individual would have to again apply for SSDI all over again if their situation changes. This can prove to be difficult as all of the medical data would have to be in place to qualify the individual.

Individuals that are in this situation would do well to use a disability attorney to help them with this current application, to ensure that there are no weak areas that could create a denial of the claim. At the same time the risk of being denied a second time for SSDI should not prevent a person from re-entering the work force on a part time basis if the circumstances are right.
