Continuing Disability Reviews: What Do I Need?
Posted in: Benefits on August 11th, 2011

disability benefitsIn the event that you are accepted for Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income, you will then be required to undergo periodic Continuing Disability Reviews, so that the government can receive information about your disability and determine whether or not you should still be receiving disability benefits.  The frequency of the Continuing Disability Reviews depends highly on the nature of your disabling illness or injury.  Generally they occur every three to seven years.

What Should I Provide?

The information that the Social Security Administration requires when considering a Continuing Disability Review is very similar to the information that you had to furnish while applying to the program for the first time.  You will need to fill out forms detailing the nature of your condition and all of the places that you have received treatment.  The Social Security Administration will obtain copies of all of your medical records for review.  In the event that more information is needed, the Social Security Administration may require you to have additional medical examinations.  Generally a Continuing Disability Review takes less than three months to complete, provided that you furnish all of the requested information in a timely manner and don’t encounter any undo problems along the way.

Be sure to comply fully with your Continuing Disability Reviews, as failure to do so might result in your benefits being terminated.  And if you made it through the initial application process, you understand how long it could take for you to start receiving benefits again!
