Change The Earnings Cut; Save Social Security Disability Insurance
Posted in: Benefits on September 15th, 2011

social security benefitsThere are many people who are trying to come up with ways to save Social Security Disability Insurance.  Under current economic conditions, it has been estimated that this program will run out of money within the next ten years, if something isn’t done to change the state of modern affairs. This means that some of the best minds have been working together to try and come up with solutions regarding the reform of this very important federal program.

Can Making Things More Gradual Help?

Many people are starting to question the incentives that Social Security Disability Insurance recipients have when it comes to the business of working.  Obviously, the more disabled people that work to their full capacities in the economy, the less money they need to receive in handouts.  The problem with the current situation, many experts say, is that it encourages people to not work in order to keep their benefits.

As of right now, if an individual makes more than 1,000 dollars a month, they are ineligible to receive any sort of Social Security Disability Insurance benefit.  Unsurprisingly, this is not a particularly appealing prospect to face, so many disabled individuals who could at least be working a little instead opt not to in order to protect their benefits.  A solution that has been suggested is the tapering off of benefits – that is, the more one is able to work, the less benefits that one gets, but just because an individual makes a certain amount of money does not necessarily mean that they will lose the entirety of their benefits.
