Benefits, Are They Worth The Trouble?
Posted in: Benefits on July 20th, 2011

Disability payments worth troubleIf you have suffered an injury or an illness that has caused you to be unable to work or pay bills, you might be eligible for either Social Security Disability Insurance or Supplemental Security Income.  The first is designed for individuals who have worked at one point in time but are unable to do so now due to illness or a physical condition.  Supplemental Security Income is meant for those who have never worked in their lives and have been prevented from doing so due to a disability

How Long Does It Take?

The average for social security approval times when it comes to disability at the moment is 500 days, which is not a particularly inspiring number.  If you are one of the individuals who has been disabled for a long period of time, however, it is probably worth your time and effort to work through the system.

Hiring a disability lawyer might be a good option for individuals who desperately need their social security disability payments and need them faster.  While a lawyer will cost more money and take up more of your time, the fact of the matter is that there are actually lawyers who specialize in this area of the law.  Your chances are higher of getting your social security money faster if you have a lawyer on your side.

However, if you feel that your disability is only temporary and that you will be able to get back to work soon, take into account how long it can take to get social security benefits.  Only get involved if you’re in it for the long fight!
